About this specialty
Algology, also known as pain medicine, focuses on long-lasting, chronic and complex pain that has not responded to other treatments. Algologists are physicians who first specialise in neurology, physical medicine or anaesthesiology and then complete additional training dedicated to the science of pain. The aim is to reduce pain and help patients return to work, sleep and daily activities.
Care begins with a detailed assessment of where the pain comes from, followed by a plan that may combine medication, targeted injections and minimally invasive procedures alongside physiotherapy. In Turkey, pain clinics work closely with other departments so that each patient's plan reflects the underlying cause, not only the symptom.
